Important Dates
- Application Deadline:
- Applications should be submitted by the first week of January for the upcoming Fall semester.
- Submission of late applications may be considered subject to availability of positions and funding.
- Admission Timeline:
- Except under unusual circumstances, due to the structure of the program the department does not offer admissions during the Spring and Summer semesters.
Steps to Apply
— Step One: GRE
Take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
- GRE scores must be no more than five years old.
- Request that the testing agency send your scores directly to KU Office of Graduate Studies using the following codes:
- Institution Code: R6871
- Photocopies of student score reports are not permissible as official reports.
— Step Two: English Proficiency
(Non-Native English Speakers only)
Students who are non-native English speakers, must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing and listening in English via the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE test.
- These may not be required if you have completed a degree in an English-speaking country.

Application Fees: Domestic Students $65 | International Students: $85
Application Fee Waiver - The department is not able to offer fee waivers of any kind. If you need assistance covering the cost of the various fees for exams, please see ETS GRE® Fee Reduction Program.
— What You Will Need to Complete the Application
To complete and submit the online KU Graduate Application for a degree in KU Pharmaceutical Chemistry, you will need the following information:
1. Transcripts
- Be prepared to submit a copy of of all undergraduate and graduate transcripts online as part of your KU Graduate Application. The online (unofficial) copy can be used during initial consideration.
- If you are accepted into the KU Pharmaceutical Chemistry program, you will be required to have official copies of your transcripts sent directly to KU from your institution.

- You are welcome to have your official transcripts sent directly to KU at any time.
2. GRE Scores
- Request that the testing agency send your scores directly to KU Office of Graduate Studies (Institution Code: R6871).
- GRE scores must be no more than five years old.
3. Resume/Curriculum Vita (CV)
- Be prepared to upload a copy of your resume or curriculum vita (CV).
- Include details of previous educational and research experience (if applicable).
4. Personal Statement
Be prepared to upload a brief personal statement (1 – 1.5 pages) to help us understand why you are interested in graduate school and more specifically why you have selected our department.
5. Letters of Recommendation
- Be prepared to enter the names and emails of three individuals, preferably professors or direct supervisors, who can provide a recommendation on your behalf.
- Select people who you believe are the most qualified to comment on your potential to succeed in graduate studies in our department.
- The individuals you identify will receive instructions via email to submit their recommendation.
- Recommendation requests may be submitted through the application before the application is fully submitted, or at the time of submission.
- Recommendations received on your behalf prior to application submission will link to your application when it is submitted.
- If a reference is unable to submit their letter online, please have them email their letter directly to pharmchem@ku.edu.
- The department will only accept recommendation letters that are sent directly from the reference, letters received from the application will not be accepted.
6. English Proficiency Scores
Non-Native English Speakers Only
- Students who are non-native English speakers, must demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing and listening in English via the TOEFL, IELTS or PTE test.
- Request that your testing agency send your official scores directly to KU (Code: 6871-47)
Selection Process
- All information must be delivered to us before we can begin to consider your application.
- Applications are evaluated based on GPA, research or employment experience, GRE scores, English-proficiency test scores (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, PTE) if applicable, personal statement, and the letters of recommendation etc.
- Short-listed applicants, if residing in the United States, are invited for a campus interview. Those not residing in the United States are interviewed by Skype/phone.
